Effort and Surrender

🍃Through our practice we come to the understanding of the two main principles in yoga: Abhyasa and Vairagya - constant effort and surrender.

“Practice and detachment are the means to still the movements of consciousness” (YS 1.12)

Balancing effort and surrender is an important part of life and practice. With yoga we learn that our effort has to be constant, disciplined and wholeheartedly. We must stay engaged, focused, and remain present.

Correspondingly, detachment and surrender (Vairagya) are necessary. Vairagya doesn’t mean disengagement. On the contrary, it brings energy withdrawal inward, self-study. This detachment allows us to perceive clearly situations for what they really are and to make choices or take action based on correct knowledge.
